I simply love oiling my hair to get a healthy scalp and strong hair. I think that's what contributes to a clean scalp and shiny hair. A common question that I get is how I apply the oil to my hair because I know, it can be confusing, but I have a certain method that I use.
From the start, I must tell you that I am obsessed with almond oil. This is my baby, I love this stuff, I go through bottles, and bottles and bottles of these and I rarely use any other oil in my hair as a carrier oil. Almond oil is really amazing for your hair. I also use castor oil with my carrier oil - I mix these two to apply to my hair and scalp.
I also have one little secret ingredient that I add to my hair that is the best thing for your hair. I know people who said that they've tried this special ingredient and it has worked wonders for their hair when nothing else has worked. And this little not so secret anymore special ingredient is rosemary essential oil - I have it in a tiny little bottle but it is like the Superman of oils. In my opinion, I know there are a lot of essential oils that are amazing but rosemary is my homeslice.
These are the three ingredients that I usually use and I'll tell you how I apply it. First, I want to make sure that my hair has no tangles in it. I usually apply the oils when my hair is dry and it needs to be washed - I usually do this when I'm on like 3rd or 4th day after washing and my scalp is a little bit oily. I only apply rosemary oil and castor oil on my scalp because I use these as a scalp treatment and the reason why I do that is that the the scalp is where the fresh hair grows from, so I want to target those oils onto my hair follicles. I don't really think they're necessary on the mid-shaft and ends of my hair so I only apply the carrier oil from mid-shaft down and these two with the carrier oil on my scalp.
I just take some almond oil - it’s about a teaspoon of almond oil, and I add like two or three drops of rosemary oil. You'll smell the rosemary because essential oil is very concentrated. I put my hands together, get that oil all over the palms of my hands and all over my fingers, then take my fingers - jazz hands, and I rub this all over my scalp, gently massaging that into my scalp, just stimulate the scalp, get the blood flow to those follicles, that's really important.
After, I take a tiny bit of almond oil - half of what I had before and mix it in equal parts with castor oil in my hand. Now, the reason why I don't use castor oil on its own is that it's a very thick oil and I feel like it pulls my hair when I apply so I like to mix it with the carrier oil. It'll give you the same effect, same results, and you'll use less of it. With the castor and almond oil mix you do the same thing - rub it all over and gently massage your scalp. Then I take my comb and I comb that through.
At the end, I split my hair into two parts, I take my carrier oil and I apply it to the mid-shaft and ends of my hair. I take my almond oil between my hands and simply rub it whatever is in my hands from the mid-shaft and ends. I don't need to completely saturate my hair, I don't think it's necessary because if you will do this regularly, your hair will get enough nutrients in time.
